The WT and it's founders, like women to be in subjection. I don't think they would embrace your argument.

Head Coverings for Women
by Diogenesister inwatchtower's ignorance around the historical background to many biblical directives has had a very negative effect on the lives of witnesses.. for instance paul said women should cover their heads because in corinth prostitutes walked the streets plying for business with their heads uncovered.
hence head coverings were never a symbol of headship but a directive very specific to that period, as was the blood directive!!.
watchtower leaders have been lawyers, businessmen, civil servants and door-to-door book salesmen, never, ever historians or biblical scholars.

Whatever is bound on EARTH is already Loosed in Heaven
by Alex Williams inwhen a person is guilty and worthy of punishment, the judgment ‘will already have been bound in heaven jesus said and if they are loosed or innocent it will already have been “loosed in heaven..in such judicial deliberations, jesus says, “where there are two or three gathered together in my name, there i am in their midst.” .
psalm 127:3.. children are a sacred trust, “an inheritance from jehovah.
jws abhor child abuse and view it as a crime.its recognized that the authorities are responsible for addressing such crimes.jws do not shield any perpetrator of child abuse from the authorities as has been alleged.

MrTheocracy - I am not a wild dog. Shouting with caps is rather ridiculous.
If someone broke into a kingdom hall and stole items, the police would be called. If someone in the hall steals a child's well being and mental health by molesting them - well instead of the police, they call the WT. And if there isn't another witness, too bad for the child and great for the molester.
See, you call the police because they can take fingerprints and collect evidence. They interview neighbors and take statements. They check databases for similar MO's to see if the crime is related to others. JW's use the police in these "mundane" matters. That doesn't happen for children.
As for the parents, many follow the WT's line of emotional reasoning that to report this to the police, would be to bring Jehovah's name in reproach. If you think that isn't true, then why is it from the example in Australia, those 1,000 plus cases of child sexual abuse were not reported?
And to say Well the WT doesn't hinder anyone from going to the police, they neither encourage it.
You didn't reply or comment on my earlier post about being responsible for the repeat offenders. I guess you had none.

Will Alex and MrTheocracy be like a great many of the Catholics that stayed with the church after the pedophile priests were revealed? People in the hall were shaking their heads in puzzlement when it first came out. How could those church goers stay with that corrupt religion?
Well, I'm sure there will be many excuses along the lines of "They are just imperfect men - Jehovah is cleaning house - those were just wolves in the congregations - they made mistakes..."
I just want to reiterate:
WT says - Cases of alleged abuse are reported to secular authorities if required by local laws - meaning if there isn't a law mandating this, they will not report.
or as instructed by the local branch office. - which is what they have been instructed to do for all these years. Call them first. No reporting to the police.
Alex wrote - Satan is an accuser ,he was that in heaven before his ouster and continues today while on the earth, with that said I'm not saying there were no mistakes made by imperfect men who handled sexual abuse but as a whole the organization is committed to feeding Christ sheep and caring for their needs as a loving Shepard entrusted with the feeding of his the Kings sheep.
At the Australian Royal Commission hearings, elders were questioned about how they handled cases of children being sexually abused. First they said, they called the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society to get advice. The advice they got, was articles that had been published in the literature - and that was read to them. At no time were they told to call the police.
The elders were asked, if they warned anyone about these pedophiles. No they did not.
Did they know that if you were in area that mandated police notification, that they could held accountable? One elder was quite taken aback when he realized that he could in trouble.
So did the WT instruct these elders to report to the police as required? No.
Pedophiles are often repeat offenders. If you research you will find that treatment to completely cure a person of this, is difficult if not impossible. There are therapies that try to help curb the desire. Look at the Catholic priests. Sent from one place to another and destroying more children's lives and their families.
So this principle applies to the WT: Exodus 21:29 But if a bull was in the habit of goring and it's owner had been warned but he would not keep it under guard and it killed a man or a woman, the bull should be stoned and its owner is also to be put to death.
Knowing that a person has committed this crime and it is not reported to the police, makes the elders and the WT responsible from then on. It allows this person to find other victims in the hall or out in the world, without authorities or parents knowing the danger.
Since we don't put people to death because of a bull, the next verses applies to the WT now. v30 If a ransom is imposed on him, he must give as a redemption price for his life all that may be imposed on him. v31 Whether it gored a son or a daughter, it is to be done to the bull's owner according to this judicial decision.
According to the bible, this is the justice for their negligence and failure to report to the authorities.

Evolution or Creation?
by Doug Mason inwhat would the outcome be among people at this site if we were able to conduct a poll on belief in evolution or in creation?.
what would the outcome be if at the same time we asked for religious affiliation (including formal, informal, or none)?

What about a different kind of creationism Vidiot? All the terrifying sea creatures, nasty blood suckers and horrible parasites don't have to be made by a "loving" creator. Just creator/creators. For whatever reason.
People themselves make up horrifying creatures and monsters just as bad or as worse. Yes of course they haven't made a real world but it does show the possibility of what something else could consider as part of a creation.
Just because most of the religions paint a "god" as being loving and perfect, it doesn't mean the "entities" are.

Find a group that has the same hobbies as you or if you don't have a hobby, find one. Meetups or something similar will give you an opportunity to find others that enjoy the same thing as you.
Not everyone in the world is as evil or bad as JW land teaches. But you do have to be discerning.

by BNG-713 ini know there are several posts about witnesses and non-witnesses in regards to relationships.
i couldn’t find anything specifically that spoke to me, so i would love some third-party advice and thoughts.. i have never been someone to pursue a stranger from the internet.

From my own experience of being the Jw and liking a guy who wasn't a Jw. He was a great guy in every way. I was raised a Jw by a mom who wasn't good at it but still dutifully took all the kids to meetings. I wasn't a complete JW because I had problems with the religion and I was "out" of the religion for several years.
But at a certain part when I became really attached to him, I also started backing off because he didn't believe in the bible. I let him go and he became the biggest regret of my life.
The thing with born in Jw's, is even if they are lax in the religion - it doesn't go out of them until they really see that it isn't the truth. Until then, they will try to get you to join because it means your eternal life. In subtle and big ways they will encourage you.
On the other hand
If the family is half baked in the truth and just slides along in meetings and such, they will bend the rules for themselves. But they will still have rules. And that might cause a low grade irritation and friction between you and the family including prospective husband.
Everyone is different and he might be a 22 mature person but .... he's playing games on the internet. Is this a first shooter game? A violent game? That's a big no no in JW land. So he is really not living a JW clean life.
Life is complicated and this will certainly be.

Hitting the fan: CD epidemic at my Hall
by neat blue dog inyesterday my congregation met for field service and the elder taking the lead did something not so smart: he brought up the child abuse situation and the recent news articles hitting local news across the country.
he said 'you can see that the persecution is really coming' and that we should be ready if someone complains about it at the door.
(funny how it's persecution when it's us and righteous judgment when it happens to the other churches.

Diogenesister
Do you think the Elders have been primed to warn the congregation like that, though? Makes you wonder.....
My brother in law, who was an elder when the Dateline episode on JW child abuse came out, said the WT instructed them to tell the congregation not to watch it.

The WT put those tablets in the hands of the followers and now it's the Electronic Sword against the Silver Sword. Both are two edged.

I would have to say, just being with my grandma. She was the nicest person in the world and had my sense of humor. She had gotten polio as a young adult and so had to use a crutch on one side to get around on. I helped in the garden and got to spend at least 2 weeks in the summer at her house. When I was older, she told me that one summer she had asked me to plant pole beans. So I wanted my grandma to have a lot because she liked them so much and planted too many in the row. She saw this and asked for me to take some out. "Oh no grandma, I can't" I said "They're alive!" So she didn't say anything and waited until I was taking a nap and took some out.
I miss her so much.
